KARACHI – Sony is preparing to expand its Xperia smartphone lineup with a new device scheduled to be unveiled on August 25.
The company has announced that the launch event will be livestreamed on YouTube. The broadcast is scheduled to begin at 11am Japan time on Tuesday.
Sony has not disclosed the name of the smartphone that will be introduced at the event. Recent leaks, however, suggest that the company could unveil the Xperia 10 VIII, also referred to as the MK8.
Xperia 10 VIII expected
The Xperia 10 VIII is expected to succeed the Xperia 10 VII, or MK7, which Sony launched in September 2025.
If the new smartphone is unveiled on August 25, it would arrive nearly a month earlier than its predecessor.
Sony has yet to confirm the device or release details about its specifications. The company is also yet to reveal whether the new model will bring major changes to the Xperia 10 series.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 tipped
A recent Geekbench listing has provided an early indication of the phone’s hardware.
The benchmark listing suggests that the Sony Xperia 10 VIII could use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset.
The same processor was used in the Xperia 10 VII. If the benchmark information is accurate, Sony may retain the chipset for another generation of its mid-range Xperia series.
Other specifications remain unclear at this stage.
Sony is expected to provide more details during its August 25 launch event. Until then, the Xperia 10 VIII name and its specifications should be treated as unconfirmed.
