ISLAMABAD – An Islamabad internet disruption affected users in parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi after an optical fiber cable was damaged, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said.
According to PTA, the issue impacted mobile data and Wi-Fi services in some areas of the twin cities, causing temporary difficulties for residents trying to access online services.
However, the regulator clarified that the disruption was limited to specific locations and was not a nationwide internet outage.
PTA Explains Reason Behind Internet Outage
PTA said the disruption occurred after an optical fiber cable within the network of a telecom operator was cut.
As a result, some internet service providers experienced connectivity issues in affected areas.
Meanwhile, technical teams were deployed to identify the fault and begin repair work to restore services.
The authority said the problem was related to network infrastructure damage rather than any planned suspension of internet services.
Internet Services Affected in Islamabad and Rawalpindi
The outage affected some users across the twin cities, particularly those relying on mobile broadband and Wi-Fi connections.
According to PTA, only certain areas experienced connectivity problems, while internet services in most parts of the country continued operating normally.
Additionally, the regulator said some areas in the northern region also faced disruptions due to the damaged optical fiber link.
PTA Advises Users to Remain Calm
Following reports of connectivity issues, PTA advised users not to worry and said restoration efforts were already underway.
The authority added that telecom operators were working to repair the damaged cable and bring affected services back online.
Furthermore, PTA said the restoration process could take several hours depending on the nature of the damage and technical requirements.
