ISLAMABAD – Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, marking a major change for a product line that has relied on a keyboard, trackpad and mouse for decades.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple could introduce the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models as early as October, although the launch could slip into November. The laptops are expected to feature OLED displays with touch support.

The move would represent one of the biggest changes to the MacBook Pro lineup in years.

Apple Is Finally Bringing Touch to the MacBook

Apple has avoided touchscreen Macs for years, even as Windows laptops have increasingly adopted touch displays.

That could finally change with the new touchscreen MacBook Pro.

The upcoming machines are expected to retain the traditional MacBook design, including a physical keyboard and trackpad. Touch would instead provide an additional way to interact with macOS.

Gurman has previously described Apple’s approach as more “touch-friendly” than touch-first. This suggests Apple does not intend to turn the MacBook into an oversized iPad.

Users could switch between touch, trackpad and mouse controls depending on the task.

OLED Display Will Be a Major Upgrade

The biggest visual change is expected to be the move from Apple’s current mini-LED technology to OLED.

OLED panels can produce deeper blacks because individual pixels can turn off completely. They can also offer stronger contrast and improved image quality.

The move would bring the MacBook Pro closer to Apple’s latest iPhone and iPad Pro displays.

The new OLED panels are also expected to help Apple create a thinner machine. Apple has reportedly redesigned the internal layout and reduced the size of several components.

New MacBook Pro Could Be Significantly Lighter

Weight is another area where Apple is reportedly making changes.

Gurman says the redesigned models will be significantly lighter than current MacBook Pro machines.

Apple has reportedly miniaturized internal components and rearranged them to reduce the overall weight.

For comparison, current MacBook Pro configurations can weigh up to around 4.7 pounds.

The redesign could therefore make the larger MacBook Pro much easier to carry without sacrificing its professional positioning.

Will the Touchscreen MacBook Pro Use an M6 Chip?

This is where the latest reports differ from some earlier expectations.

The touchscreen OLED models are currently expected to use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, rather than an M6 chip. Bloomberg previously reported that Apple was preparing the high-end OLED machines with its existing M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.

Apple is also reportedly preparing a separate 14-inch MacBook Pro with a base M6 chip.

That means the touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro and the regular M6 MacBook Pro could be separate products.

macOS 27.2 Is Reportedly Being Tested

Apple is also reportedly testing the new machines with macOS 27.2.

The software version is currently in development, and its timing could provide a clue about when the new Macs will arrive.

Earlier reports had indicated that the touchscreen MacBook Pro was being tested with macOS 27.1. More recent reporting points to macOS 27.2.

The software will need to support touch interactions while maintaining the traditional Mac experience.

Apple Could Replace the Notch

The redesigned touchscreen MacBook Pro could also receive another visual change.

Apple is reportedly considering an iPhone-style Dynamic Island instead of the current display notch.

The change would allow Apple to move toward a more modern display design while retaining the camera hardware at the top of the screen.

However, the exact implementation remains unconfirmed.

Apple Is Not Turning the MacBook Into an iPad

Despite the touchscreen upgrade, Apple reportedly does not plan to make the MacBook Pro function like an iPad.

The company appears to be taking a more conservative approach.

Touch would work alongside the existing trackpad and keyboard rather than replacing them.

macOS is also expected to provide larger or more touch-friendly controls in certain situations.

This could make it easier to tap menus, scroll through pages or interact with compatible applications without reaching for the trackpad.

OLED iPad Mini Could Arrive Too

The touchscreen MacBook Pro may not be Apple’s only major OLED launch this month.

Apple is also reportedly preparing a new OLED iPad mini.

The next iPad mini is expected to retain its compact form factor, although recent reports suggest the display could become slightly larger.

The device is also expected to receive the A20 Pro chip, a landscape-oriented front camera and a redesigned speaker system.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has predicted that the new OLED iPad mini could arrive by the end of October.

When Will the Touchscreen MacBook Pro Launch?

Apple has not officially announced a launch date for the touchscreen MacBook Pro.

The latest reporting points to October or November 2026.

Reports indicate Apple could announce the OLED MacBook Pro models during the final weeks of October. Several other Macs are also expected to arrive around the same period.

That means Apple could have a particularly busy product launch period ahead.

A Major Change for Apple’s Mac Lineup

The arrival of a touchscreen MacBook Pro would end one of Apple’s longest-running hardware boundaries.

For years, Apple has kept the Mac and iPad experiences separate. The Mac focused on traditional computer input, while the iPad embraced touch.

The new MacBook Pro could blur that distinction.

Apple still appears determined to keep the MacBook a laptop first. But giving users the option to touch the screen could make the device more flexible for creative work, browsing and other everyday tasks.

The biggest question may not be whether Apple can make a touchscreen MacBook.

It is whether Mac users will actually want to use the screen instead of the trackpad.

If the reports are accurate, that experiment could begin before the end of 2026.
