WASHINGTON – Tesla’s Chief and the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, announced a ‘War’ by launching a new political party, ‘America Party’, after a recent public and political fallout with President Donald Trump. The recently signed spending bill was the last nail in the coffin.
The billionaire in a post shared on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Tesla’s chief shared his concerns and raised serious questions at the bipartisan political structure of America under the Trump Administration, the billionaire said that when it comes to the bankruptcy of the U.S. the people of U.S. in a one-party system, ruled by a single person, not a democracy adding that the America Party will aim at bringing back the freedom and giving it to the citizens of America.
The development comes following the heightened tensions between Musk and Trump, who were once close allies and best friends, caused by Musk’s strong opposition to the current U.S. administration’s massive domestic policy package. The world was shocked after the announcement, as Musk was Trump’s friend, a major donor to Trump’s 2024 political campaign, and President Trump’s former informal adviser. Furthermore, among the many reasons, he publicly criticized the legislation and called the current administration fiscally irresponsible and damaging to the country’s future.
In spite of previous attempts to lessen the criticism, just recently, both started to fight once again as the spending bill became law. Even though Musk has till now filed the required formal paperwork needed to register the party with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), he reiterated his intentions to make the American Party an emerging active political force in the midterm elections of 2026. The America Party aims to provide support to political candidates in strategically selected House and Senate races.
The Tesla Chief called the American Party a fiscal conservative, and the party will actively work to slash government spending and eliminate corruption. However, he has not shared a full policy platform and urges to restoration of accountability and financial discipline.
Moreover, he said that even though he shared such values with the Trump Administration, the Republican-led policies might create something he referred to as “debt slavery.”
Trump’s tone was harsh when responding to Elon’s actions, and he said that the federal government could potentially reconsider the earlier made contracts with Musk’s companies and referred to the Department of Government Efficiency, once led by Musk, as a “monster that may come back and eat Elon.”
Political analysts have expressed doubts about the feasibility of a third party, highlighting the historical challenges such movements encounter, such as fundraising difficulties, ballot access issues, and maintaining voter loyalty. Nevertheless, Musk believes that public sentiment is changing and that the time is ripe for a new political force.
