ISLAMABAD – The federal government has launched an operation to block CNICs registered against expired or cancelled CNICs. This operation aims to strengthen national security and ensure digital accountability.

According to NADRA, more than 4,906,611 SIMs are registered against expired CNICs or belong to deceased individuals.

These SIMs will be blocked in phases. In the first phase, all the SIM cards issued on CNICs that expired in 2017 or earlier will be blocked by June 30, 2025.

In the second phase, the SIMs issued on CNICs that expired in 2018 will be blocked by July 31.

The third phase will block the SIMS registered against CNICs that expired in 2019 by August 31.

This process will be repeated every month, and the SIMs issued against CNICs that expired in 2020, 2021, and 2022 will be blocked by September 30, October 31, and November 30, respectively.

The last phase will block all the SIMs issued on CNICs expired in 2023 and onwards.

This time gap has been given to the users by the government to verify and renew their CNICs to avoid any inconvenience.

According to the authorities, this initiative will play a key role in reducing identity fraud and cybercrimes and ensure that only verified and authentic users have access to telecommunication services.
