BEIJING – Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi 17C in China, succeeding the Redmi 15C and notably skipping the Redmi 16C branding in its budget smartphone lineup.
The new handset arrives with a 6.88-inch HD+ LCD display featuring a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a touch-sampling rate of 240Hz. The screen offers peak brightness of 600 nits, supports DC dimming, and carries TÜV Rheinland certifications aimed at reducing eye strain.
Powered by the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultra processor, the Redmi 17C is available in two storage configurations: 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and 4GB RAM with 128GB storage. Unlike its predecessor, which offered up to 8GB of RAM, the new model is limited to a single 4GB memory option.
The smartphone runs Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 operating system out of the box and retains features such as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
On the photography front, the Redmi 17C features a 13-megapixel rear camera paired with an LED flash. Although the rear module resembles a multi-camera setup, Xiaomi has equipped the device with only one functional camera sensor. A 5MP front-facing camera is housed in a waterdrop-style notch.
The device is backed by a 5,160mAh battery with support for 18W wired charging.
Xiaomi is offering the Redmi 17C in Black, Danxia Red and Sea Breeze Blue colour options. The red variant features a leather-like textured finish, while the remaining models have glossy rear panels.
The base 4GB/64GB variant is priced at approximately $117, while the 4GB/128GB version costs around $132 in China.
Given the popularity of Redmi smartphones in Pakistan’s entry-level and mid-range segments, industry observers expect the handset could eventually make its way to the local market, although Xiaomi has yet to announce international availability.
