LAHORE – A police officer was martyred and three others were injured during an exchange of fire which involved both the police and civilians against terrorists in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.
The injured were quickly shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment. They included one police officer, a schoolteacher, and a local civilian.
A spokesperson for the Police said:
“The members of the peace committee, along with police personnel, were patrolling the area when they were attacked by terrorists at around 12:30am” the spokesperson said.
The unfortunate incident occurred late Tuesday night in the Landidak area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Huwaid police station. According to police reports, members of a local peace committee and residents fought back against terrorists who attempted to enter the village.
The officer who lost his life was identified as Murtaza, he was stationed at the Bakakhel TDP camp. Local residents had previously warned terrorists against entering the area through community jirgas and had armed themselves to defend their community when terrorists attempted to make an incursion. However, Police and local residents pushed back the terrorists through a precise response.
In the past 24 hours, at least seven people, including a police officer, have been killed and five others wounded in a series of shootings across the Bannu District.
