WASHINGTON – In a surprising yet welcoming development, the Gaza war has come to a halt after 20 months of continuous fighting. The US President Donald Trump played a crucial role in brokering a ceasefire and credited the Middle Eastern countries Qatar and Egypt for their efforts in bringing this war to an end.
Trump revealed the development on his Truth social media platform, Trump remarked that the State of Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire to uphold peace and truce, which aims at ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza. It is pertinent to mention that envoys held “extensive and productive” meetings with Israeli officials for this ceasefire.
Trump in his Truth post stated that Israel has accepted all the required conditions for a 60-day ceasefire, and during that period, the US would work along with both sides to bring a permanent end to this human suffering. he further stated that he hopes Hamas would also accept the necessary conditions of the ceasefire.
However, even after Trump announced the ceasefire, Israel struck several civilian sites in Gaza, which included a café, a school, food aid distribution centers, and a hospital. According to reports, the number of casualties reported are at least 95 Palestinians were killed and dozens of others were injured.
Among the casualties, 39 people died in a strike on the Al-Baqa seaside café in northern Gaza. The victims of the strike included women, children, and a journalist, Ismail Abu Hatab. According to eyewitnesses, the strike was carried out by Israeli fighter jets.
