ISLAMABAD – In a high-level meeting on Friday, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at NADRA Headquarters, it was decided to immediately block the Mobile SIMs issued using expired or fake CNICs.
In the first phase, all the SIM cards issued on CNICs that expired in 2017 or earlier will be blocked.
The next phase will follow the same policy for the SIMs issued on CNICs that expired after 2017.
Furthermore, SIMs registered against fake CNICs will also be blocked, and only authentic CNICs will be eligible for the issuance and continuation of SIMs. According to the chairman of NADRA, this action also aims to block the SIMs issued to deceased individuals.
Mohsin Naqvi ordered the Interior Ministry to issue orders to the relevant institutions to refrain from storing the biometric data independently and to implement facial recognition technology in the country by December 31, 2025.
Moreover, he also announced the expansion of NADRA services in the tehsils where such services were not available before.
The Minister stated that the NADRA services will be accessible across all 31 union councils of Islamabad by June 30.
Talal Chaudhry, the Minister of State for Interior, along with other NADRA senior officials also attended the meeting.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently laid the foundation stone for a new 10-storey NADRA Mega Centre in the I-8 sector of Islamabad. The completion of this significant project is projected for June 2026, enhancing the region’s administrative capabilities.
