LACHIN – Islamabad and Baku have reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening the strategic partnership by identifying mutually beneficial investment opportunities. This commitment was emphasized during a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev in Lachin.
During the discussion, the leaders evaluated the comprehensive spectrum of bilateral relations and conveyed their satisfaction regarding the increasing momentum in political, economic, defense, and cultural cooperation between the two nations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed that both nations have always supported each other in various circumstances and shall always continue to do so by upholding this solidarity. This meeting occurred on the eve of the Trilateral meeting involving Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye, which coincides with Azerbaijan’s Independence Day, adding a symbolic and emotional significance to the exchange between the two leaders. The Prime Minister extended warm congratulations to President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on this momentous national occasion.
The Premier thanked Azerbaijan for its unwavering support during the recent Pakistan-India tensions, in the face of Indian aggression, and acknowledged the brotherly expressions from the leadership and the people of Azerbaijan. He noted that the people of Azerbaijan acknowledged and celebrated Pakistan’s achievements in Maarka-e-Haq against India, highlighting a spirit of solidarity.
The Prime Minister emphasized that holding this meeting in Lachin, a city symbolizing Azerbaijan’s journey of resilience and restoration, holds significant emotional importance for both parties. Other high-ranking officials were also present, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and the Chief of the Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Ullah Tarrar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
