Pakistani representatives are coming in next week: Trump

WASHINGTON/U.S. – President Donald Trump on Saturday said that representatives from Pakistan will be coming to the United States next week to cut a deal on tariffs. Pakistan faces the threat of 29% tariff due to an increased surplus of $3 billion to the world’s biggest economy. The tariffs were announced by Washington on countries around the world. Trump also hinted that Washington is close to making a deal with India.

“I think the deal I’m most proud of is the fact that we’re dealing with India, we’re dealing with Pakistan, and we were able to stop potentially a nuclear war through trade as opposed to bullets. You know, normally they do it through bullets. We do it through trade. So I’m very proud of that. Nobody talks about it. But we had a very nasty potential war going on between Pakistan and India. And now, if you look, they’re doing fine,” Trump said to reporters at Joint Base Andrews after departing Air Force One.

“Pakistani representatives are coming in next week. We’re very close to making a deal with India,” he remarked.

Trump further added that he would never make a deal with either of the two countries if they were to engage in war with each other. Previously, the two nuclear-armed decades-long rivals used advanced machinery: fighter jets, missiles, drones, and artillery in just four days of escalation, with the threat of potential further escalation. The fighting by both sides was the worst in decades.

Recently, India’s Minister of Trade, Piyush Goyal, visited Washington for trade talks. Both sides aimed at signing an interim agreement. It is essential to note that India faces tariffs of 26%. According to reports, India is likely going to allow U.S. firms to bid for contracts worth over $50 billion as it is looking to negotiate a deal with Washington.
