Washington – According to the White House, President Donald Trump will be making an “exciting” announcement related to the Department of Defence on Tuesday. The development comes following Trump’s previous remarks about renaming it to the Department of War.
Republican President Donald Trump was due to announce the development from the Oval Office at 2:00 pm (1800 GMT), according to his daily schedule, which did not give further details about the event.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the President will make an exciting announcement related to the Department of Defense. She also didn’t add any context to the matter.
The event will mark Trump’s first public event in a week. President Trump has repeatedly dubbed himself as “peace president”, claiming that he is worthy to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end six wars since he assumed the Presidency.
In spite of being a peace promoter, he expressed his idea of renaming the Department of Defence to the Department of War by providing the reason that the current terminology is too “defensive”.
Trump, during a briefing to reporters, recalled World War 1 and World War 2 by saying that the US had won everything when the name was the Department of War. According to President Trump, “Defense” sounds too defensive, and the US wants to be defensive but wants to play on the offensive too, as it is a requirement; thus Department of War sounded better to him.
Trump went on to add that he was not sure if the renaming had to be approved by Congress or not, but he was hopeful that lawmakers would not oppose the proposal. The renaming was also hinted at by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth at a marathon cabinet meeting.
