PM Shehbaz arrives at Dushanbe for diplomatic talks

Dushanbe/Tajikistan – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Tajikistan for an official two-day official visit which aims at enhancing bilateral relations and addressing the regional and environmental challenges. The visit, announced by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), is a signal of Islamabad’s renewed diplomatic outreach in Central Asia.

 

On the Prime Minister’s arrival at Dushanbe Airport on Thursday was received by his counterpart Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, accompanied by other high-ranking Tajik officials which included the Deputy Foreign Minister Sharifzoda Farrukh Homiddin.

The reception also included Yusuf Sharifzoda, Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, and Muhammad Saeed Sarwar, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan. Accompanying the Prime Minister are Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Syed Tariq Fatemi.

Premier Sharif’s visit focuses on high-level talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. The discussions are expected to encompass various sectors, including trade, energy, regional connectivity, and security cooperation.

 

In his address, he is expected to emphasize the devastating impact of climate change on Pakistan, especially in the Himalayan and Karakoram regions. He will call for urgent international cooperation to protect the environment. Additionally, he will reaffirm Pakistan’s strong commitment to preserving glaciers, which is crucial for the country’s future water security and ecological stability. This visit by the Premier also reflects Islamabad’s desire to play a leading role in climate diplomacy.
