Google launches Nano Banana 2 Lite: Here’s what to know

ISLAMABAD – Google has introduced Nano Banana 2 Lite, a faster and more affordable version of its AI image generation model, alongside the wider rollout of its Gemini Omni Flash video generation technology.

According to the company, Nano Banana 2 Lite is designed for users who need to generate large volumes of images quickly, producing an image in approximately four seconds. The lower latency makes the model suitable for rapid testing and content creation workflows.

Google said Nano Banana 2 Lite costs $0.034 per 1,000 images, positioning it as a lower-cost option for developers and businesses creating AI-generated visual content at scale.

The new model succeeds the original Nano Banana, which Google has now designated as a legacy model. The original version was launched last year using Gemini 3.1 Flash, while Nano Banana 2, released earlier this year, introduced improved image realism. Google also continues to offer Nano Banana Pro for more advanced image generation tasks.

The company described Nano Banana 2 as a general-purpose image generation model, whereas Nano Banana 2 Lite has been optimised for high-volume production where speed is a priority.

The launch comes as technology companies continue to invest heavily in generative AI tools despite criticism over the growing volume of low-quality AI-generated content. Google has increasingly positioned its AI models as tools for advertising, marketing and other creative workflows.

Separately, Google announced the broader availability of Gemini Omni Flash, its AI-powered video generation model first unveiled at Google I/O earlier this year. The service is priced at $0.10 per second of generated video.

The company also showcased Omni Product Studio, a new tool that converts static AI-generated images into cinematic e-commerce videos.

Google said creative work involving generative media often requires repeated experimentation and that Nano Banana 2 Lite and Gemini Omni Flash are designed to help developers build multimedia experiences by combining fast image generation with AI-powered video creation and editing.

Nano Banana 2 Lite is now available through Google AI Studio, the Gemini API and Google’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.
