ISLAMABAD – The Tokyo International Film Festival opened on Monday with a star-studded red carpet in Tokyo’s Hibiya district. Chilly autumn rain failed to dampen the enthusiasm of fans who gathered to see their favourite stars.
The opening event featured several prominent Japanese actors and entertainers. These included Shōgun actor Tadanobu Asano, Last Samurai Standing star Junichi Okada, singer and actor Kento Nakajima, actress Mei Nagano and Yu Yu Hakusho lead Takumi Kitamura.
Despite the downpour, stars and filmmakers continued to greet fans and attend the event. Umbrellas filled the red carpet as guests tried to stay dry while taking part in the festival’s opening celebrations.
Macedonian director Milcho Manchevski also drew attention with an unusual accessory. He arrived with the cast and producers of his competition film, Sister Brother Manhole Cover, carrying a replica manhole cover.
Manchevski used the prop to shield himself from the rain while promoting the film. He also explained its significance, linking manhole covers to the social themes explored in the story.
“Manhole covers keep the dirt of society hidden, and they are what our heroes steal in the film,” he said.
The festival’s opening brought together Japanese entertainment figures and international filmmakers, setting the stage for a gathering that continued despite the wet weather.
