SEOUL – Korean American actor Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, has joined the cast of Netflix’s Extraction 3, his agency said on Tuesday.
According to Big Punch Entertainment, Ma will appear in the third instalment of the action franchise alongside Chris Hemsworth and Idris Elba.
The film is currently in production and will continue the story of Tyler Rake, a former special forces operative played by Hemsworth. Rake works as a mercenary and takes on dangerous rescue missions involving international criminal syndicates.
Details about the plot and Ma Dong-seok’s role have not yet been revealed.
Sam Hargrave, who directed the first two Extraction films, is returning to direct the third instalment. David Weil, known for his work on Citadel, is writing the screenplay.
Ma gained international recognition through films including Train to Busan and The Roundup series. He is also currently filming The Roundup 5, the fifth entry in the popular South Korean crime franchise.
In the upcoming film, Ma will reprise his role as Ma Seok-do, who has been promoted to lead a metropolitan investigation unit. Production began in May, with the film scheduled for release next year.
The addition of Ma Dong-seok brings another international action star to the Extraction franchise. Chris Hemsworth has led the series since the first film.
