LAHORE – In line with the government’s initiative to promote eco-friendly transportation, the Punjab authorities have introduced special green-colored number plates specifically for electric vehicles (EVs). These new plates will replace the standard ones, and all EV owners will now be required to display these green plates on their vehicles.
According to Additional DG Ahmad Saeed, the green plates are designed to clearly distinguish electric vehicles from traditional fuel-based ones, supporting the government’s initiative to promote environmentally friendly choices.
Over 16,000 electric vehicles have now been registered in Punjab. This total consists of around 14,500 electric motorcycles, 1,461 electric cars, 36 electric rickshaws, and 31 electric buses.
Ahmad Saeed mentioned that the government has been providing substantial financial relief to electric vehicle (EV) owners. Currently, a 95% discount on registration and token taxes is being offered. He confirmed that this tax relief will continue into the next financial year to further encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.
