LAHORE – An all-girls team from Lahore Grammar School (LGS) 55 Main has won the Global Finals Championship at the 2026 Global Future Space Scholars’ Meet (GFSSM) in Beijing, China.
The students represented Pakistan at the international competition and secured the top position while also receiving several team and individual awards.
The championship-winning team comprised Alina Imran, Amna Ahmed, Areeba Shakeel, Eshaal Haroon, Fatima Farukh, Mariam Abdul Rahman, Shanzay Umar, Sheza Imran, Umayma Fatima, Wania Saqib, Zahra Fatima and Zainab Tahir.
They were accompanied and mentored by teachers Amina Sabahat and Nadeem Anwar.

Pakistan secures two top positions
The 2026 GFSSM finals were held in Beijing from August 13 to 17, bringing together 260 students from nine countries.
The wider competition attracted participants from more than 17 countries and regions.
Pakistan was represented by students from several LGS campuses, including 55 Main, 14-C and Phase 5.
LGS Phase 5 also secured a podium finish, ending the competition as second runner-up, or third place. The position was shared with three other international teams.
The LGS Phase 5 team included Pareesa Zaid, Muhammad Raamish Nauman, Muhammad Rafay Ammar, Ibrahim Lodhi, Amna Qureshi, Umair Alam, Zoya Hasan Tariq, Alina Binte Amir, Isra Ahmed Bashir, Safdar Zaman, Muhammad Ahmad and Ali Khurram.

Students tackle space and engineering challenges
The Global Future Space Scholars’ Meet combines science, engineering, business, design, communication and problem-solving through team-based activities.
During the Beijing final, students from different countries were placed into multinational teams and asked to operate as virtual companies.
The teams had 24 hours to develop a proposal for a space-related project. They then presented their ideas and defended their proposals before a judging panel.
The strong performances by LGS 55 Main and LGS Phase 5 gave Pakistan two major finishes at this year’s international competition.
The results also highlighted the ability of Pakistani school students to compete in international science, engineering and space-focused challenges.
