Seoul – Suga, rapper and songwriter in the global K-pop sensation BTS, has been officially discharged from South Korea’s mandatory military service as of Saturday after 2 years. On the emotional occasion, the rapper shared a heartfelt message with his fans around the globe.
The letter was posted on Weverse, and the rapper reflected back to BTS’ two-year hiatus. The letter was filled with emotions as the rapper wrote that during his time in the military, it was an opportunity for him to think about himself. He further added that BTS would try their level best to repay fans for all their love and support over the years.
The development marked an end to the mandatory military service of all seven BTS members news and their return to the industry. The most famous K-pop band, BTS, plans to have a reunion as a group sometime this year. BIG Hit, BTS’ representative, told fans that no event was planned for Suga’s release due to crowd control concerns.
Six members of the group served time in the military, with the exception of Suga, who had to fulfill his service as a social service agent, due to his shoulder injury, which is an alternative form of military service.
The law provides specific exemptions for athletes, classical musicians, traditional musicians, ballet dancers, and other dancers who have won top prizes in designated competitions and are deemed to elevate national prestige. However, K-pop stars and other entertainers do not receive these advantages, although they can postpone their enlistment until they turn 30.
