Google ordered to pay $314.6 million in Android Data Collection Lawsuit

CALIFORNIA – The global tech giant, Google, recently lost a lawsuit in California, which was filed in 2019 by 14 million Californians. It claims that Android phones collected data and sent it to Google while the phones were idle. This caused damage of about $800 million.

The court has decided in favour of the plaintiffs and awarded them $314.6 million. It was found that Android phones collected data and transmitted it to Google on the owner’s expense.

However, Google is planning to appeal this decision and claims that no user was harmed by these data transfers, and the users themselves agreed to these transfers while agreeing to Google’s terms of service and privacy policy.

Another lawsuit has also been filed by another group in the federal court in San Jose, bringing the same allegations against Google on behalf of Android users in the other 49 states. That lawsuit is scheduled for April 2026.
