ISLAMABAD – Pakistani scientist Prof Dr Hina Siddiqui has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), United Kingdom, in recognition of her contributions to the chemical sciences.
Siddiqui is a Professor of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry at the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and is associated with the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi.
The fellowship recognises her sustained contributions to research and academic development in chemistry.
Siddiqui completed her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the University of Karachi under the supervision of renowned scientist Prof Dr M Iqbal Choudhary. She later held several research and academic positions at ICCBS.
She also received advanced research training at the University of Kansas in the United States and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Tübingen in Germany.

Research and academic work
Siddiqui has published more than 70 research papers in international journals. She also holds a granted US patent and several local patents. Her academic work includes a book and several book chapters.
Her research focuses on the design and development of anti-infectious agents. These include antibacterial, antiprotozoal and antiviral compounds.
She also works on inhibitors of clinically important enzymes and the development of small molecular libraries to expand chemical space.
Alongside her research, Siddiqui has supervised more than 35 M.Phil. and Ph.D. students in medicinal chemistry. Her students have come from Pakistan as well as other countries in Africa and Asia.
Her supervision has contributed to research capacity building and scientific collaboration across countries.

International recognition
Siddiqui has received several competitive research grants at the national and international levels. She has also delivered more than 70 lectures, including plenary and invited talks, at workshops, symposia and conferences in Pakistan and abroad.
Serving as an Adjunct Professor at several national and international universities. She is also an OIC-COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar, where she contributes to scientific knowledge exchange and research capacity building among researchers from OIC member states.
Her election as an FRSC adds to her international recognition and highlights the contribution of Pakistani researchers to the global scientific community.
