ISLAMABAD – The PlayStation 5 Pro has reportedly sold out at several major US retailers as demand for Sony’s high-end console rises ahead of the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6).
As of early September, the $899 console was unavailable at retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, GameStop and PlayStation Direct.
The reported shortage comes less than three months before Rockstar Games is scheduled to release GTA 6 on Nov 19, 2026.

PS5 Pro prices rise in secondary markets
The PS5 Pro is also commanding significantly higher prices on secondary marketplaces.
International resellers have reportedly listed the console for more than $1,400, well above Sony’s current US retail price of $899.
In Pakistan, the console is being sold for around Rs350,000 by retailers in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, according to an importer cited by ProPakistani.
Sony launched the PS5 Pro in November 2024 at $699.99. The company later raised its US price to $899 in 2026.

GTA 6 fuels console demand
The reported shortage comes as anticipation for GTA 6 continues to build.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that the game will launch on Nov 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Recent reports have also pointed to stronger sales of current-generation consoles following the latest GTA 6 showcase, highlighting the game’s potential impact on hardware demand.
The PS5 Pro is not required to play GTA 6. The game will also be available on the standard PlayStation 5.
However, the PS5 Pro offers higher-end hardware and is positioned as Sony’s premium current-generation console. Its reported sell-out at major retailers could therefore reflect growing interest from players looking to upgrade before one of the industry’s biggest releases of the year.
For now, it remains unclear when major US retailers will replenish their PS5 Pro stocks.
