ISLAMABAD – Pakistan women’s cricket captain Fatima Sana has been fined by ICC after breaching the governing body’s Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 match against India in Dubai.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a fine of 10 percent of Fatima Sana’s match fee after finding her guilty of a Level 1 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The incident occurred during Pakistan’s Group A match against India on Saturday, where Fatima dismissed Indian opener Shafali Verma and made a gesture towards the pavilion.
Along with the financial penalty, one demerit point has also been added to Fatima’s disciplinary record.
Fatima Sana Breaches ICC Code Of Conduct
According to the ICC, Fatima breached Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct.
The article relates to using language, actions or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a dismissed batter during an international match.
The incident took place in the second over of India’s innings after Fatima removed Shafali Verma.
Following the dismissal, the Pakistan captain gestured towards the pavilion, which was considered a violation of ICC regulations.
The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Nimali Perera and Shathira Jakir Jesy, along with third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan.
Second ICC Offence In 24 Months For Fatima Sana
The latest punishment is Fatima Sana’s second offence within a 24-month period.
The additional demerit point takes her total tally to two demerit points during that period.
Fatima previously received one demerit point during the first T20 International of Pakistan’s series against Ireland in Dublin on August 6, 2025.
Under ICC rules, accumulating demerit points within a set period can lead to further disciplinary action depending on the number of points received.
Fatima Accepts ICC Sanction
Fatima Sana admitted the offence and accepted the proposed punishment from Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
Because she accepted the sanction, no formal hearing was required.
The ICC confirmed that Level 1 breaches carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee.
Such offences can also result in one or two demerit points being added to a player’s record.
