SEOUL – Samsung has significantly expanded its software support in recent years. Newer flagship Galaxy devices can now receive up to seven years of Android and security updates.
Some recent mid-range models also qualify for several generations of Android and One UI upgrades. However, a number of Galaxy phones launched between 2021 and 2023 are now moving closer to the end of their promised support periods.
Samsung Galaxy phones nearing the end of support
Samsung does not provide a public list showing the exact final support date for every Galaxy phone. The expected dates below are therefore based on each model’s launch period and the software policy Samsung announced for that generation.

Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 are closest to the cutoff
The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 are among the oldest devices on the list.
Both foldables have already reached the end of their major Android and One UI upgrade period. They are now receiving security updates on a less frequent schedule.
Samsung’s security update list has moved both models to quarterly updates. This means owners should expect security patches less frequently than users with newer Galaxy devices.

Galaxy S22 series also approaching the end
The Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra are also entering the later stage of their software life cycle.
The three phones have reached the end of their expected major Android upgrade period. Samsung is still providing security updates, with support expected to continue through 2027.
The Galaxy S21 FE 5G and Galaxy A53 5G are in a similar position. Both models have reached their expected Android upgrade limit and are now relying on continued security support.
The Galaxy A14 reached the end of its major Android update period earlier, although security support is expected to continue until 2027.
Newer Galaxy phones have more time
Some models from 2022 and 2023 still have meaningful support remaining.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 are expected to receive major Android and One UI updates through 2026, followed by security support into 2027.
The Galaxy S23 series has an even longer runway.
Samsung is expected to provide the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra with major Android updates through 2027 and security updates through 2028.
Samsung is also expected to provide the Galaxy A54 5G with major Android updates through 2027, with security support continuing into 2028.
As of August 2026, Samsung lists the Galaxy Z Fold4, Z Flip4 and Galaxy S23 series among devices receiving monthly security updates.

What happens when Samsung stops updates?
A Galaxy phone does not stop working when it reaches the end of its software support. Users can continue making calls, sending messages, browsing the internet, and using compatible apps.
The main difference is that the device will no longer receive new Android or One UI versions after its major software support ends.
The more important concern comes when security support also expires.
Samsung will no longer regularly release patches for newly discovered vulnerabilities. Over time, this can make an unsupported phone more exposed to security risks.
Users can therefore continue using an older Galaxy phone after support ends, but upgrading becomes increasingly important for long-term security.
Support dates are not always final
The dates listed above should be treated as expected support cutoffs rather than guaranteed final update dates.
Samsung has occasionally released software updates for devices outside their regular support window. Such updates can be issued when the company needs to address a specific security issue or other critical problem.
For owners of older Galaxy phones, however, the end of regular security support remains an important milestone.
Anyone planning to keep a phone for several more years should consider Samsung’s software policy alongside hardware performance, battery life and app compatibility before deciding whether to upgrade.
