NEW YORK – Pakistani-American singer Arooj Aftab made the nation proud as she become the first ever Pakistani to win a Grammy award.
The 37-year-old vocalist won the prestigious trophy for her song “Mohabbat” from her album Vulture Prince in the Best Global Performance category during the main Grammy event on Sunday.
She had also been nominated in the Best New Artist category
Aftab has been living in the New York for 15 years as she spent her teenage years in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province.

She moved to the US after getting admission in Boston’s renowned Berklee School of Music to study musical production and engineering.
She shot to the fame after former US president Barack Obama added her song Mohabbat from Vulture Prince album on his 2021 summer favourites list.
The Pakistani powerhouse Aftab has performed at various major venues in New York including Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art.
