KitKat’s ‘Break Mode’ wrapper turns chocolate packaging into phone blocker

Published

on

KARACHI – KitKat has introduced a limited-edition “Break Mode” wrapper that can block smartphone signals, turning its packaging into a temporary digital detox tool after the chocolate is removed.

Developed by KitKat Panama in collaboration with Ogilvy Colombia, the oversized pouch works as a Faraday cage, designed to cut off mobile data, calls, Bluetooth, GPS and notifications when a phone is placed inside and sealed.

The concept uses conductive layers, including copper, nickel, polyester and polypropylene, to prevent electromagnetic signals from reaching the device. The companies behind the project say the design was tested for signal isolation and attenuation.

Once emptied, the wrapper can be reused as a portable pouch for up to a year, and its materials are designed to be recyclable at the end of its lifecycle.

The campaign reframes KitKat’s long-running “Have a break” slogan as a physical digital wellbeing tool, encouraging users to disconnect without relying on airplane mode or self-control.

The limited campaign has appeared at exhibitions, concerts, and universities in Panama as a marketing experiment rather than a commercial retail product.
