ISLAMABAD – September 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest months for smartphone launches in years, with more than 20 new devices expected from major manufacturers including Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei, Vivo, Oppo, Honor and iQOO.
The unusually crowded launch schedule comes as manufacturers prepare to introduce new flagship processors and compete for attention in the premium smartphone market.
Apple is preparing its annual high-end iPhone launch alongside its first foldable iPhone, while Huawei has moved its Mate series forward from its traditional November launch window.
At the same time, new flagship chipsets from Qualcomm and MediaTek are expected to accelerate Android launches.
Many of the smartphones are likely to debut in China first. However, several models are also expected to reach international markets.
iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and first foldable iPhone
Apple is scheduled to hold its launch event on September 9, where the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the company’s first foldable iPhone are expected to take centre stage.
The iPhone 18 Pro models are tipped to retain 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays while switching to Apple’s 2nm A20 Pro chipset.
The devices are also expected to feature 12GB of RAM and Apple’s C2 modem.
Apple could further reduce the size of the Dynamic Island by moving more of the Face ID hardware beneath the display.
Meanwhile, the foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.3-inch cover screen.
The device could use a combination of titanium and aluminium for its construction. Reports also suggest that Apple could replace Face ID with Touch ID integrated into the power button.
The foldable iPhone is expected to use two rear cameras without a dedicated telephoto lens, despite reports pointing to a price of more than $2,000.
Xiaomi 18 Fold and Xiaomi 18 series
Xiaomi is also expected to have a busy September, beginning with the launch of the Xiaomi 18 Fold.
The foldable smartphone is tipped to use the company’s Xring O3 processor and next-generation LPDDR6 memory.
It could feature a 7.6-inch display, a 6,000mAh battery, 67-watt wired charging and 50W wireless charging. A 200-megapixel main camera is also expected.
Xiaomi could introduce the Xiaomi 18 Fold alongside the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, which reportedly uses the same processor. Higher-end models could feature dual 200MP SmartSens cameras and a dedicated AI button.
Global versions of the Xiaomi 18 and Xiaomi 18 Pro have reportedly received certification in Turkey, the European Economic Area, Russia, Taiwan and Japan, suggesting that an international launch could follow relatively quickly.
Huawei Mate XT2
Huawei has scheduled the Mate XT2 for launch on September 7.
The device will become the company’s third tri-fold smartphone, following the original Mate XT and last year’s Mate XTs refresh.
Pre-orders in China are already available in several configurations, including versions with 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage.
The Mate XT2 is expected to use a Kirin 9050 Pro chipset and could have a battery larger than 6,000mAh.
Huawei is also reportedly working on a redesigned hinge that could reduce the crease on its 10.2-inch unfolded display. The company is expected to launch the Mate XT2 and Mate 90 series at separate events.

Huawei Mate 90 series
Huawei is also expected to introduce the Mate 90 series in September, significantly earlier than the company’s usual November launch period.
The next-generation Kirin processor is reportedly based on a new “Tau” design approach that could increase transistor density by more than 50 per cent.
The Mate 90 Pro Max is tipped to feature two periscope telephoto cameras, including one capable of 10x optical zoom.
Such a camera configuration would mark a return to a setup not seen on Huawei’s flagship phones since the P40 Pro+.
The Mate 90 Pro Max and RS models could feature batteries with capacities between 6,800mAh and 7,000mAh.
The display could measure 6.9 inches and use Tandem OLED technology.
iQOO 16 series
The iQOO 16 series is expected to continue the company’s focus on performance and gaming-oriented hardware.
The phones are tipped to feature a 6.85-inch Samsung-made flat 2K display with a 165Hz refresh rate.
Power could come from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset.
The camera system could also receive a major upgrade, with three 50MP rear cameras. The main sensor is expected to measure 1/1.3 inches and use an f/1.68 aperture.
Other reported features include Bose-tuned stereo speakers, an X-axis linear vibration motor, a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and IP68/IP69 protection.
iQOO could introduce the series alongside the iQOO Neo 12 and a new compact tablet towards the end of September or in early October.
Vivo X500 series
Vivo has confirmed that its X500 series will debut in China during September.
The X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max are expected to feature a Zeiss Super Dynamic main camera developed in collaboration with Sony.
The company claims the camera system can deliver up to 17 stops of dynamic range.
Video features are expected to include 4K recording at 240 frames per second for slow motion and 4K 120fps HDR recording.
The camera system could also offer three-degree optical image stabilisation with gimbal-level stabilisation.
The X500 Pro Max will feature a 6.85-inch 2K BOE Q11 display. If launched as reported, it would be the first smartphone to use the panel.
Vivo claims the display can reduce motion blur during scrolling by 93 per cent compared with the previous generation.

Oppo Find X10 series
Oppo is also expected to launch its Find X10 series in China this month. The lineup could include the Find X10, Find X10 Pro and Find X10 Pro Max, with a smaller flagship model potentially joining the range.
The standard Find X10 could use a Dimensity 9600-series processor and pack an 8,000mAh battery. Oppo has yet to confirm the launch date or pricing.
Honor Magic9 series
Honor has confirmed that its Magic9 series will launch in Beijing on September 28. The launch will take place almost a month earlier than the Magic8 series arrived last year.
Honor is expected to continue its collaboration with cinema-camera manufacturer ARRI, and the new phones will reportedly support native Log-C3 video encoding and LUT colour grading.
The standard Magic9 could also introduce a square selfie camera, potentially making it the first Android smartphone to ship with such a sensor format.
Higher-end models will feature a 200MP main camera with three-degree optical image stabilisation and a second 200MP periscope telephoto camera. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 hardware will power the phones.
Battery capacity could exceed 7,500mAh on the standard model and approach 9,000mAh on the Pro version, using Honor’s silicon-carbon battery technology.
A crowded month for smartphone makers
Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei, Vivo, Oppo, Honor and iQOO are preparing major launches. As a result, September could become an important month for the smartphone industry.
New processors and larger batteries could make the month even more significant. Several phones are also expected to feature advanced camera systems and foldable designs.
However, consumers outside China may have to wait longer for some devices. Manufacturers plan to stagger international launches after their domestic debuts.
