LAHORE – The federal government has called for cybersecurity education in schools, colleges and universities to protect children and young people from online threats.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar made the remarks on Thursday while addressing the closing ceremony of Cybersecurity Awareness Week.

He said Pakistan needed a stronger regulatory framework and updated policies to keep pace with rapidly changing technology.

Tarar stressed that digital literacy should cover fake news, cyberattacks and online safety. He said children needed the skills to recognise digital threats and protect themselves while using online platforms.

The minister also called for changes to educational curricula to reflect the growing importance of digital skills and cybersecurity.

He said the government needed to work with relevant stakeholders to improve public awareness. This could include meetings and training sessions to help citizens understand online risks.

Tarar further stressed that cybersecurity awareness should reach people across the country. He also called for greater participation from young people in securing Pakistan’s digital future.

His remarks came as government officials highlighted growing concerns over online fraud, cyberbullying and increasingly complex digital threats.
