ISLAMABAD – According to rumours circulating on social media, the installation of more than one Electricity Meter will be deemed illegal by the government, as several reports conclude that this is part of the government’s broader strategy to curb electricity theft.
The Power Division stepped in to put an end to all the rumours circulating on social media about the supposed ban on installing a second electricity meter, calling such reports completely false and misleading. A spokesperson for the division said that these fake reports were made to create public unrest and gave a stern warning that sharing or spreading false information is strictly punishable under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
Power Division emphasized that every citizen is still eligible to apply for a second meter under the already existing laws and regulations. The public was urged to ignore such misleading claims. According to NEPRA Consumer Services Manual 2021, separate meters are allowed for residential which have different individual entrances and kitchens.
The division stated that laws against electricity theft and subsidy misuse are fully enforced to protect consumers and the power system. This statement is intended to clear up confusion and assure citizens that their rights regarding electricity meters remain secure.
