Peshawar – 70 fell ill in Buner after guests attending an engagement ceremony in Swari Bazaar reportedly became unwell after eating food served at the event. 

The incident occurred in Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, with women and children making up a large proportion of those affected, according to local reports.  

Several guests had reportedly travelled from Chagharzai and Paggyal to attend the engagement ceremony. 

Buner Food Poisoning Incident Sends Guests To Hospital 

The affected people were taken to hospital after developing health problems following the meal. 

Rescue teams responded to the incident and provided initial assistance before several patients were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Buner for further treatment.  

The exact cause of the illness has not yet been officially established. Authorities are investigating whether the food served at the ceremony was contaminated. 

20 Patients Discharged After Treatment 

Medical Superintendent Dr Farrukh Sayar said 20 patients were discharged after receiving immediate medical treatment. 

Another 50 patients remained under treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital, according to the latest reports. Most of the affected people were women and children.  

The number of patients requiring treatment prompted health authorities to closely monitor the situation at the hospital. 

Officials Visit Buner Hospital 

The commissioner and deputy commissioner visited the hospital after being informed about the incident. 

They met the affected people and directed hospital officials to ensure that the patients received the necessary medical care. 

Authorities have not yet confirmed what specific food item may have caused the illnesses. 

Police Begin Investigation 

Police have launched an investigation into the incident. 

Officials are expected to determine how the food was prepared and whether any food safety or hygiene issues contributed to the illness. 

The incident has also raised concerns about food safety at large gatherings, where improper storage, preparation, or handling of food can increase the risk of foodborne illness. 

For now, the investigation is continuing, and the reported cause remains unconfirmed. 

Situation Under Investigation 

The 70 fall ill in Buner incident remains under investigation as authorities work to establish the circumstances behind the mass illness. 

With 50 people still receiving treatment, officials are continuing to monitor the condition of those affected.
