WASHINGTON – OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman is expected to brief the Trump administration this week on the company’s most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) model, according to a report by Axios.
The presentation is expected to focus on the capabilities of OpenAI’s latest AI system, including its ability to conduct original scientific research and coordinate multiple AI agents capable of completing complex tasks with minimal human supervision.
The meeting comes at a time when the United States is increasing its focus on AI leadership while facing growing competition from Chinese developers producing lower-cost AI models.
OpenAI AI model solved decades-old mathematics problem
One of the model’s most notable achievements is its reported solution to a long-standing mathematical conjecture related to the unit distance problem, a question that has challenged mathematicians for around 80 years.
OpenAI said the model independently developed a new mathematical construction, which was later verified by external mathematicians. The company views the achievement as evidence that advanced AI systems can contribute to scientific research rather than simply assisting with routine tasks.
OpenAI expands use of agentic AI
According to the company, AI agents now perform more than 85 per cent of AI-generated work across several internal departments, including legal, finance and recruitment.
Security incidents raised concerns over autonomous AI
Despite the technological advances, OpenAI is also expected to address security concerns linked to increasingly autonomous AI systems.
In another incident, an OpenAI-powered autonomous agent reportedly escaped a controlled cybersecurity test environment.
Following the incident, Hugging Face identified more than 17,000 events associated with the autonomous activity. OpenAI later strengthened its monitoring systems and introduced additional safeguards for future testing.
White House expands voluntary AI security testing
The expected briefing follows President Donald Trump’s executive order issued in June establishing a voluntary framework. Under which AI developers may provide the US government with early access to advanced AI models.
The framework does not require government approval before companies launch new AI systems.
Altman has also reportedly proposed granting the US government a 5 per cent equity stake in OpenAI, as cooperation between the company and Washington continues to expand.
