Tokyo – Over the past few years, Sony has gradually shifted its focus from the smartphone market. The company now seems to rely on third-party manufacturers for its mid-range offerings. While it outsourced the production of these mid-range phones, Sony continued to develop its high-end Xperia line. However, it too seems to come to an end with Sony deciding to step back from producing its premium phones as well.
Sony ceased the production of its Xperia phones. Another shock was witnessed when the company eliminated the term “smartphones” from its device listings on its manufacturing-focused websites in Thailand and China.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that the Xperia brand is finished; it simply indicates that Sony has no interest in manufacturing these devices. Similar to its mid-range phones, Sony seems to have given the job to a third-party manufacturer. According to reports, this change was first witnessed in the release of the Xperia 1 VII. It is believed that the Xperia 1 VII is the first of Sony’s premium phones to be produced by a different company.
