LAHORE – Tom Holland has admitted that promoting films he was not proud of proved far more challenging than discussing projects he genuinely believes in.

Speaking on the Dish Podcast, the British actor said his current promotional tours for The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day have been particularly enjoyable because he is confident in the quality of both films.

“When you’re doing press for movies you’re really proud of, it’s really easy,” Holland said, explaining that he can honestly recommend audiences to watch them.

However, he acknowledged that not every project in his career has inspired the same confidence.

“I’ve had experiences before when people say, ‘Why should you see this movie?’ And in the back of your mind, you’re like, ‘You shouldn’t, because it’s bad,'” Holland said with a laugh. The actor did not identify the films he was referring to.

Holland praises latest projects

Holland described the promotional campaigns for The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day as rewarding experiences, saying he feels proud of both productions.

“It has felt like a bit of a victory lap,” he said.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic and follows King Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, as he attempts to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan War.

The film features an ensemble cast including Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal, Samantha Morton, Mia Goth, John Leguizamo, Corey Hawkins, Travis Scott, Benny Safdie and Tom Holland, who portrays Telemachus.

The film has enjoyed a strong theatrical run, earning more than $600 million globally during its second weekend.

Learning from Anne Hathaway

Holland also praised co-star Anne Hathaway, saying working alongside her during the press tour had been an important learning experience.

“I’ve had the pleasure of sitting down with Anne Hathaway for the last three days and doing press with her,” he said. “She’s such a pro.”

The focus shift to Spider-Man

With The Odyssey already in cinemas, Holland has turned his attention to promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is scheduled for release on July 31.

The fourth Spider-Man instalment sees Peter Parker living in a world where no one remembers his identity, while a new threat emerges and his former friends move on without him.

Holland will once again star alongside his wife Zendaya and longtime co-star Jacob Batalon.
