Chinese humanoid robot Yansyn-X2 can cry realistic tears

LAHORE – A Chinese humanoid robot named Yansyn-X2 humanoid robot has gained attention for its ability to produce realistic tears during conversations, creating a more human-like interaction experience. 

The robot was recently demonstrated at the 2026 Inclusion Conference in Shanghai, where a live presentation showed the machine responding to a question about crying by producing a visible tear from its eye. 

Developed by Ningbo-based Yanxi Technology, Yansyn-X2 is described as a bionic facial-expression robot designed to improve emotional communication between humans and machines. 

How Yansyn-X2 Robot Produces Tears 

The Yansyn-X2 humanoid robot uses artificial intelligence to analyse conversations, emotional tone and context. 

When the system detects expressions or situations linked to emotions such as sadness or empathy, it activates facial movements designed to match the interaction. 

Additionally, a microfluidic system placed beneath the robot’s silicone skin produces artificial tears near the eyes. 

The mechanism uses a miniature pump and precise fluid-control technology to create a tear effect that appears similar to human crying. 

Robot Does Not Feel Emotions 

Although Yansyn-X2 can display emotional responses, the robot does not actually experience feelings. 

Instead, the technology is part of a field known as affective computing, which focuses on enabling machines to recognise human emotions and respond in ways that make communication feel more natural. 

Through facial expressions, gestures and voice interaction, researchers aim to make future robots easier for humans to interact with. 

Yansyn-X2 Features and Capabilities 

The current version of Yansyn-X2 is not a fully walking humanoid robot. 

However, it can perform several human-like actions, including: 

• Turning its head 

• Tracking people 

• Moving its arms 

• Adjusting upper-body movements 

• Creating facial expressions 

The robot uses a silicone-based facial structure to produce more realistic expressions compared with traditional robotic designs.

Yanxi Technology has said future versions of the robot could use bionic muscles instead of conventional servo motors. 

According to the company, this development could allow smoother movements and a wider range of facial expressions.
