NEW DELHI – India is investigating a data breach at Tata Electronics that exposed documents linked to Apple’s unreleased iPhone 18 Pro, a senior government official said on Thursday.
Krishnan, secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, confirmed that the incident is under investigation after sensitive information was reportedly leaked online.
“We are investigating,” Krishnan told reporters, adding that the incident had been reported to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the country’s primary agency for handling cybersecurity incidents.
According to reports, a ransomware group published files on the dark web after stealing data from Tata Electronics, one of Apple’s suppliers in India.
The leaked material reportedly includes component and supplier lists, along with images of iPhone 18 Pro models that have not yet been officially released.
The breach could affect Apple’s closely managed global supply chain, which relies on a network of manufacturing partners across multiple countries.
Apple is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September. The leaked files reportedly identify companies involved in manufacturing specific components for the devices, information that Apple does not publicly disclose in its supplier database.
The data leak also reportedly included documents related to Tesla, Qualcomm and TSMC.
Tata Electronics has hired an international consulting firm to carry out a forensic audit to determine the scope of the breach and investigate the cyberattack.
